Ziggy and Remi walking down the street. |
Sadly, the neighbors do not like Ziggy. They didn't exactly come right out and say so, but it was clear from the look in their eyes that they were not happy with him. And although Ziggy was interested in the neighbors, he wasn't threatening toward them. Remi, on the other hand, was acting very aggressive - barking and even lunging at them. I think he felt safe because the neighbor's property is fenced, but there were a couple of times when Ziggy tried to go through the fence to get into the neighbor's yard. All in all, I was a bit nervous about the entire situation. The neighbors (I haven't yet learned their names) haven't done anything overtly aggressive, but from what little I could discern, they were clearly not happy that we were walking down the road.
Ziggy and Remi show a bit too much interest in the neighbors. |
Although I'm no expert on cows, I think this is definitely one unhappy neighbor.

I don't know of a good way to tell if a cow is happy or unhappy - but they don't eat dogs. Just keep Ziggy and Remi on their side of the fence, and you should be OK!
Watch out for Bulls though!
As for a house-warming present - I would stay away from a steak dinner! Maybe a hay bail from the next time you mow?

For a minute there, I was worried that you were going to have more neighbour problems! Ha ha, I wouldn't worry too much about those cows, I know from experience that they will fight back if they don't like something!
I love your neighbors! We used to have cow neighbors back in Nebraska, but that was a long time ago.
Oh booo on cows! They obviously cannot tell a good neighbor from a bad one!
You look very nice to me! :)
Woofs & hugs,

I'd guess a nice grass pie. Some extra nice kind of grass. What kind do cows like best in the world? I don't really know...
DANG! You scared me! I thought it was human neighbors giving you the stink eye! Cows always look grumpy! I'd toss em some hard candy.
COOKIES AND MILK...sounds good to me. Of course those are not the kind of cows you milk. Can't tell from the pictures but they may be steers.
I worked on a dairy farm and there is no way to tell a happy cow. I had one play rodeo clown with me and she looked happy to me before hand. As for bulls, we were told more people get hurt by cows because everyone is cautious around bull. Also told to remember a cow is a female bull. If there are calves, stay away from the fence.
On the other hand they may think Remi is a calf.
So glad to see Ziggy again.
How I wish we had cows for neighbors!
I think they'll probably desensitize to the dogs over time as long as the dogs stay on their side of the fence.
Oh you had me going for a bit there...I thought we were going to get some scary The Hills Have Eyes story here!
I should have know you were up to something...
do cows eat carrots, or is it just horses that do that? hmm...
how about some dog treats for the cows?!
I don't know if it will do much for the cows but giving Remi and Ziggy a yummy treat whenever they see a cow will certainly make them feel relaxed with your new neighbors!
Hope you're enjoying the new place, BTW.
We live near donkies and horses. They were all scared of us at first but we just sat by the fence and watched them. Slowly they would come nearer and now we sniff each other, and momma pets them. We take carrots...but ya know we have never met a cow so not sure what they like. Maybe take a "Poo Poo" Platter. BOL BOL BOL! Good Luck making furends with the neighbors. It will happen all animals can be furends.
Mollie and Bobo
omg you really had me worried for a while there! i thought you had moved in next to some unfriendly dog-hating humans!
i think the moomoos would like chocolate peanutbutter cups :)
We have cow neighbors, too and they're very curious about the dogs. They come up to the fence to watch them play. The dogs used to go over and talk to them, but now they pretty much ignore them.
Give them some time, everybody will get used to each other.
Ugh. Cows. I hate horses too. Woof!
