Sampson and stuffies

I've had cats for many years.  I've fostered over 50 cats.  I should be somewhat knowledgeable about cats.  But I'm not.  This has been demonstrated to me by Simon and Sampson.  These two boys are littermates, and they're teaching me many new things.  First they started with the drooling and wiping their drool on my face.  That was new, and I learned it meant they liked me.  Great.  Then there was this other behavior that was new to me as well.

So I asked a cat-savvy friend what it meant when Simon or Sampson would grab his brother's neck in his mouth, bite down, stand over him and start kneading and purring loudly.  I thought it was weird but cute.  Then my friend told me it was mating behavior.  Ewwwwwwwwww.  Sometimes I think I'm better off NOT knowing anything about cat behavior.

There is one other thing that Sampson does that I have not seen before.  He carries stuffies (stuffed animals) around the house.  They end up on the floor, on the bed, or in the shower.  I don't know what he does with them.  We've recently adopted a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy around my house.  It's better that way.

Cats certainly are strange little critters. I think as long as nobody gets hurt that don't ask don't tell is the best way to go.

I didn't know cats could drool. And as long as he's not taking the Romp-N-Roll he should be ok.

My kitteh-sister Abby drools when mom pets her. And mom says my kitteh-cuzin Maenerd does, too...like, a lot! Kittehs are very mysterious creatures to me.

Yes we had a cat that drooled all over Brenda but not John, John used to say Smutty loves you.
Cats are funny.

Sampson and Simon's behavior might not necessarily be a mating ting ... it could also be a show of dominance (we've had female cats at the shelter that do the same thing)...

Our VET prescribed Feliway to help out Padre's excessive grooming (he's nearly bald in a few areas). Feliway is like a plug-in air freshener, except it emits a calming feline pheromone.

Panda Bear mounts the females here too, which is why he's in the Naughty Kitty Club! Our VET asked us to let her know if the Feliway helps Panda's "deviant sexual behavior". It's too soon to tell, as we have been using the Feliway for only a week.

My sister's cats (the ones in Columbia MO) like to put stuffed animals into their food bowls after they're done eating. They also put scarves into the food bowl too. Don't know why.

Don't ask, don't tell is good until the cats decide to play show and tell... you never know.
