Losing

After the recent house offer fell through, I received some more bad news. The subdivision will not allow me any more time to keep the foster animals, so they all must go. Only Remi and Noelle can stay. I am losing all of my fosters as well as my own cat. Rudy and Tripoli will go back to the original foster homes they came from. My cat Merlin will go to live with my parents. Ziggy may be going to a temporary foster home. And Gretchen loses the most. She has been at a shelter for almost a month now, and can't stay much longer since she is having trouble in the shelter environment. Since I have no idea when I'll be able to take her, and we haven't been able to find another foster home for her, she will lose her life.

I am also worried about Ziggy. There is one person who offered a temporary foster home for him, but it may be several months before I am able to move and take him back, and if he doesn't work out at that foster home, he will have limited options. He is not an easy dog, and he would probably not do well in a shelter or boarding situation long-term. Long-term foster homes are in high demand and the few people I know who are willing to take on a deaf chewy pit bull are already full or have other pets that make it a bad fit. I am not giving up on him, and hopefully he will work out in his termporary foster home, but I admit I am concerned. One of my rescue friends already offered to help with boarding costs if needed. I live in the metro St. Louis area, and there are a lot of boarding facilities here. I am thinking perhaps he can just stay at one boarding facility until he is kicked out, and then sent on to the next one. Kind of like a rich kid who continually gets kicked out of all the boarding schools he attends. It's an option. If it comes to that I may be taking up a collection to pay for his tuition boarding fees. For now I will hope he is on his best behavior in his temporary foster home! The house search continues, and in the meantime I am blessed to have so many friends who are willing to step in and help however they can. Special thank yous to Bev, Chuck, Heather, Linda, Mom and Dad, for all you've done and all you've offered to do to help in this awful situation!

This is absolutely terrible. You've done so many wonderful things, and you're being punished - all of you are being punished.

Poor Gretchen! I wish I could take her, but I have five already plus another female isn't an option for us. Someone just has to help with her.

My paws are crossed for Ziggy, too. He'll be lost without you. Let's face it, your home is his home in his mind.

I hope you find a place quickly, very quickly.

I wish we could start a letter writing campaign on your behalf to buy you just a few months - do you think that would help at all????

What a horrible situation. I hope you can find a foster friendly home soon. I can't even imagine how hard it must be letting your fosters go. There is something out there somewhere.

Oh, no! This is absolutely terrible news. Do the subdivision people have any idea whatsoever about all of the amazing things you are doing??? We are praying and purring, and have our fingers and paws crossed that good things start to happen soon. That Gretchen finds a home. That you find a place where Ziggy, Merlin, Tripoli, Gretchen and all your animals can live. And that you are able to stay hopeful despite all of what is going on.

We agree with our friend Pibble ... maybe a letter writing campaign could buy you some time?

Oh, Laurie! I'm so mad at your stupid subdivision, I can hardly see straight! WTH? What narrow-minded, short-sighted people they are. Mostly, I do NOT understand you having to give up Merlin (for now) since he's INSIDE your house and not bothering anyone. That's got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

My heart just aches for you and I wish there was something - ANYTHING - I could do. If there is, please, please don't hesitate to let me know. I know it's a cliche but life really is so unfair sometimes.

All of my furkids are sending you wiggles and purrs. And I'm sending you lots of hugs. I hope things work out soon.

Have your subdivision trustees gone INTO everyone's house personally and checked to see how many animals there are...I bet they would be surprised, especially with cats. I would hide Ziggy and only let him out from 1 to 3 AM. I had four Weimaraners in a subdivision that also only allowed two, so I only let two out at a time. They all looked the same.

What a shame. I'd make sure that neighbor was in full compliance of every single subdivision and city ordinance on the books. But that's just me, and I'm a little vindictive. :)

This is all so horrible. I hope you're able to get out of there and get your family back together very soon. I'll be saying special prayers for Ziggy and Gretchen.

Thank you all for your support. I wish there was something more I could do, but at this point I don't think a letter writing campaign would help, so I just will try to get another house and close on it as quickly as possible. It is so good to have friends like you - thank you!

Oh this is just the worst news - I wish I was closer so I could help out somehow - I am not even sure how. YOu could come up here - the townhouse next to ours is for sale - it wouldn't be a great fit but it would be something. Oh I am so sad for all of you!
