Ziggy Plays Football

I always suspected that Ziggy was a football fan.  Every time my husband would turn on a football game, Ziggy would be right there by his feet.  But since there was always food involved, I couldn't be sure if it was the football game or the food that interested him.  Until yesterday when Ziggy found a stuffed football, and I found my answer.

Ziggy loves football.  He tried out every position and every play he's ever seen on TV.  First, he practiced hiking the ball, while giving the opposing team his best tough dog glare.

Then he tried out being a receiver, catching long passes thrown just over his shoulder.

He worked on his running game for awhile.

He practiced his best feints to avoid the defense.

And when the other team got the ball, he got a chance to practice his fumble recovery skills.

All in all, Ziggy is quite the football player.  Which may explain why he has so much fun running at people or other dogs full-speed and knocking them down.  I thought it was too much puppy exuberance.  It turns out it's just another chance for Ziggy to practice his football skills.  I think he'd make an excellent left tackle.

Wow Mystery solved! Maybe you should dress him up for the next event as a football player...Jersey...helmet...ball. Might get a few applications for quite a talented boy!

I agree with Mollie Jo and Bobo. If you present him as a great football player, maybe someone will finally realise his full potential. Ziggy the sports star!

Adorable photos, as always. What a cute little guy.

Basically, one Ziggy equals an entire football team.

You just have to find a dog + football loving family and he'd be set!

Okay, so far the kinds of families that Ziggy would be pawfect for:

Lumberjacks
Circus people
Heavy machinery operators
Professional football players

Seriously, there's gotta be a million of those kinds of peoples out there.. Why hasn't he found a forever home yet?

Mesa is our little linebacker. If another dog has the ball she hits them hard enough to knock it loose

He needs to go join a team. Then he will totally be discovered.

If you get together with some other people in your rescue, maybe you could get together a team to film on "adult doggy bowl" (y'know, instead of puppy bowl).

Next call? Animal Planet!

My girl and my foster girl ball with the small ball - but in their case I'm pretty sure it's rugby and not football. Their passing game leaves something to be desired.

Sounds like Ziggy is one of those rare and extremely talented football players who are able to play offense AND defense!

What an adorable dogs. I also want a dog at home but I am afraid it will be a threat to my bunnies... I have a lot of bunnies at home. They have a rabbit hutch but during day time I let them play around the house. Actually, one was get killed by a neighborhood’s dog. What do you guys think is the best breed for a household with bunnies?

Hi Kylie, there are several breeds that generally do fine with small animals like rabbits. You will want to find one with no prey drive (the thing that makes some dogs chase any small object). You might want to check with House Rabbit Society for some suggestions, but more than anything I'd suggest find a dog that has been in foster care so that the foster parent can give you a good idea of what the dog is like. Then just make sure to keep the dog on a leash at first and always closely monitor them when they are together. House Rabbit Society can probably give you more tips as well. Good luck! :-)
