Christmas Puppies

This is Hannah.  She was pregnant stray that a rescue volunteer took in.  She is heartworm positive and has a bad front leg, but is extremely sweet.  She recently had puppies.

There are several black ones.

There is one tan puppy.

There are a few black and tan puppies.

And there is one tan and black puppy.
There are, however, no brown puppies.

Puppies are fun, but they are a lot of work.  In fact, there is a direct correlation between the number of puppies, and the amount of work it requires to care for them.  So imagine how much work these puppies are:

Especially when I tell you that they weren't even all in the picture!  Poor Hannah had thirteen puppies.  I feel sorry for Hannah, and even more sorry for Hannah's foster mom.  But I have to admit I love going over to visit them.  Playing with one or two puppies is fun... and playing with thirteen puppies is a LOT of fun.
I just sit on the floor and let them crawl all over me.
Of course, standing up is a challenge - as is walking with thirteen puppies underfoot.  I took this picture of my feet while standing so you can see the danger of trying to move without harming any puppies or myself.

These puppies will be ready for adoption right after Christmas, and will make wonderful Christmas presents for some lucky families!

I'm feeling Hannah's pain, and foster mom's, too. Those puppies sure are cute, though!

Wait! I thought we weren't supposed to give pets as gifts!

So sorry to hear about Hannah being heartworm positive. Our dogs had 10 puppies, so I know the hard work involved. Hope they all find loving homes. I'd love to have a puppy, but I'm at my limit now with 6. :( Such beautiful faces. Really hope they find great, loving homes. Paws Crossed.

Uncle puppy is drooling. He wants a puppy of his own for Christmas. They are adorable!

To my favorite giant speckled chihuahua - You're right - puppies, dogs, cats and kittens never make good gifts if they're a surprise for someone like a husband/wife, parent, or friend! But most puppies adopted around Christmas are going to be a gift for children, with the parents fully knowing what they're getting into. The trick as rescue volunteers is to make sure they aren't just getting a puppy because their kid has been begging for one - without knowing what they're signing up for. An amazing number of dogs get returned after they're adopted as puppies because the people were not thinking about 1 year ahead or 10 years ahead when the cute puppy is a large adult. We do our best to make sure any puppies that are adopted, the adopter realizes what they're getting into, and we believe they're ready for the committment. :-)

Ahh thirteen, well at least it wasn't 101. Poor Hannah she must be one tired Mommy, thank goodness she has a foster mom to help her out. They must be tons of fun to play with though!

Thirteen?! Oh, poor Hannah! But at least she has good people to help her. I don't envy you guys; as you said, it's a LOT of work! Good luck and I hope you find great homes for all of them quickly!

You are a lucky girl Laurie. I wouldn't get any work done if I had that many puppies to take care of - would spend all my hours holding them!

Merry Christmas Hannah and Laurie...

Thank you ALL PAWS for taking Hannah in. Just looked out the window and with the snow, wind and single digit temperatures to come most of those little guys would be dead if Hannah was not taken in. God bless all of you!

We had eight pups and it was a full time job so I know what that foster Mom is going thru. She's exhausted.

How I'd love to live close by so I could play with all those babies. Is there anything more fun than sitting on the floor with a group of puppies climbing all over you trying to eat your fingers and untying your shoes?

SQUEEEE! What cute pups. You have momma all wanting one. But they are a TON of work, so I say no way. I am just now getting PeeWee trained properly.
