Ziggy's Issues

Ziggy has issues. They aren't normal dog issues, like wanting to chase cats or dig holes. They aren't even abnormal dog issues, like an irrational fear of a water bowl. No, Ziggy's issues are more... human in nature. Ziggy apparently picked up some bad habits before I brought him home. For one thing, he's the first dog I've ever had who really enjoys chewing on the cigarette butts that are found on the ground outside PetSmart occasionally. And when someone walks by smoking a cigarette, he just about pulls my arm out of the socket trying to follow that person and get a whiff of the smoke.

But its not just the tobacco addiction that concerns me. It's also the drinking.

Yes, it's true. Ziggy is an alcoholic.

I caught him the other day, sneaking a beer out of the refrigerator and guzzling it down. I have proof.

Okay fine, maybe my husband drank the beer and Ziggy just found the empty bottle on the kitchen counter. But he definitely enjoyed it way too much.

And even more of a concern to me is that he didn't seem drunk at all afterwards. Or actually, he seemed like his usual self - and he usually acts slightly inebriated. I'm afraid that he may have a bigger problem than I previously realized. Does anyone know of a doggie self-help group? Or maybe a support group for foster moms of dogs with drinking problems? I just don't know what to do with him anymore.

You definitely need to send that boy to AA! If things start to get worse, you'll need to take him to one of those fancy resort rehabs, they only cost like $50,000 a night..

I've heard of dogs liking alcohol, but the smoking thing is new to me. What do you think he did in his prior life.

WORMS.... That's what it is all about WORMS.. Around here farmers give Chewing tobacco to goats to kill worms. Well they also give COAL to pigs for the same reason. (Ever hear the old saying... sounds like a hog crunching coal?? That is where it comes from) As for the beer thingy... well I suppose it is just to wash the bad taste out of his mouth. WORMS, I say.

I must admit I have a slight coffee addiction. I have ruined many cups of coffee by taking a free lick. Also, many straws have had to be replaced when the iced coffee sits in the cup holder of the car.

This confirms my suspicions all along... Ziggy is one cool dude... just make sure those cough syrup is locked away.

I have heard of doggies eating cigarette butts before. My aunts dog will eat them (he eats anything - watch straps, rocks, he finds when they walk). But the following part is unusual.

As far as beer, well, I can see the appeal. I haven't really known any beer drinker dogs (though again my aunts dog - I can see it) but our dog growing up once drank a martini that spilled on the floor. It didn't end well. But all in all I am sure beer is a much better choice - at least a tastier one.

And at least it is Rolling Rock.

Oh my goodness! I just clicked through to Ziggy's listing for the first time from Pitter Patter and saw he shares my birthday!! He also shares my love for a good brew!

I so wish I could take him home, he's too cute and I love his little quirks!

my friends have commented on how I have the weirdest dogs ever. Not because they have dog issues, but because they have people issues. Maybe Ziggy should join our family...

My Airedale loved wine. We couldn't leave a glass of wine out on a table without him sticking his big old snooter in to it. Fortunately neither Mango nor Dexter have developed a similar habit.
