Update on Kermit

Some people thought it shouldn't be allowed. They said that Kermit - my sweet, happy Kermit - should be forced to continue living in a kennel at a no-kill shelter instead of being allowed to come live with me. I won't be able to tell you what his life was like while he lived in the shelter. But I can tell you what his life is like now. He follows me around the house. He lives quite happily with Remi and Noelle and Ziggy. He goes outside and runs and plays with all three dogs, and then he comes in and sleeps at Dave's feet. .
He never stays in a crate or a kennel - he has free run of the house and yard. He's never had any disagreements with any other dog.  He goes everywhere with a big smile on his face. He goes to adoption events every week - something that was impossible when he was at the shelter (which is closed to the public). He runs errands with me, and we go on walks. I don't know how to describe to you how happy he is, but it makes me very angry that some people wanted to deny him this. When politics get in the way of doing what is best for a dog, the dog is the one who loses. I'm so grateful for those rescue volunteers who were willing to do what was best for Kermit, in spite of the politics involved. They made his life a lot happier. And whether he gets adopted in the next week or continues to live with me for weeks or months, he is very much loved, and I will always do what is best for him.

Kermit has received two adoption applications in the past week! One family saw him at PetSmart last week, and the other one saw him online. I am trying to not get my hopes too high that one of these families will work out for him, so I'm not disappointed if it doesn't work out. That's actually not too hard, since I haven't had him here very long, and I would really love to spend more time with him. But if the right family comes along, I will be happy for him that he gets to go to his own forever family.

One of the rescue volunteers helped me bathe Kermit on Thursday. He hasn't had a bath in awhile and she let us go to her house and use her bathtub and supplies - it was quite an adventure!  Thank you Sue - now Kermit will look his best for the adoption event today.

Who on earth could think it is better for a dog to be in kennels than a loving foster home, stupid people.
We on occasions have a dog in kennels but as soon as a foster place is available they are taken out. We still go to the kennels and walk them and spend time with them, they are walked with other dogs, and we know they are well. But it is still good when a dog gets adopted and one in kennels can come out.

That's the craziest story I ever heard? How could anybodys think it was better for Mr. Kermit to live in a shelter place than to live in your Most Wonderful house? I luvs peoples a lot but sometimes it's kinda hard to understand 'em, that's for sure. I am glad Kermit is so very much happy with you. And I'm gonna keep my paws crossed for his Most Perfect Home Ever!

Yes, it's pretty sad when politics get in the way of really doing what's best for the animals. Thank you for your determination to foster Kermit, and for giving him the very best chance to flourish and find his forever home! Our fingers and paws are crossed. :)

Don't understand why anyone would want a dog to remain unseen in a shelter when they could be given a chance at adoption. Isn't that why he is with a rescue group, to be adopted?

Thank you for bathing Kermie. And thank you to Sue, for offering her bath tub. There is nothing sweeter than a clean dog. I hope this encourages folks to give him lots of hugs at adoption days - he loves those hugs! He is the sweetest dog ever. I am so happy everyone is looking out for him. Thank you, to everyone who touches his life.

You're such a good mom! Our mom gets her panties in a twist too when politics get in the way of rescuing a pup outta the shelter. She's got a good 'I'm gonna open a can of whoop ass on ya' stare when people don't cooperate when it comes to savin' animals though. Sounds like you prolly got the same stare...

What a handsome boy he is. We all hope he finds a wonderful, safe forever home. He deserves it.

We're so glad Kermit is finding a home, since he couldn't come live with us (St Peters says 2 dogs only). Even if this adoption doesn't work out and he's 'stuck' with you for longer, it's so much better than the where he was. Living in a concrete-floored, cubicle-sized cage 22 hours a day, year after year, with the constant cacophony of the other dogs, and very minimal human companionship is no way to live.

Kudos to you for standing up for him, and not being bullied by some idiotic humans. Sometimes two-leggers are dumber than cats.

I couldn't agaree with Champ and Charley more. It's not always easy standing up for what's right, but I hope you always continue to do so. I am so proud of you for all you do.
