Mud – The bane of my existence

I used to look forward to the Spring. Then I got a dog. All of a sudden, Spring stopped meaning warm weather and longer days, and it started meaning rain and mud. The more dogs, the more mud in the house – there is a direct correlation. And of course the heavier the dog, the more mud gets tracked in, so having a 160 pound Great Dane is always worse in the Spring.

Even having a dog like Noelle who hates the rain and mud, and will NEVER walk through a mud puddle or voluntarily get dirty, comes with its own issues, since she has to be forced to go out into the rain and much prefers to have a not-so-accidental “accident” inside in order to avoid getting wet. I no longer look forward to the Spring, although there are occasional funny moments. Like last week when my foster dog Buddy decided to take a mud bath. And then all I could think about was when I said I liked Muddy Buddys, I was referring to the Chex snack food recipe and not an actual dog.

This kind of Muddy Buddy = GOOD.

This kind of Muddy Buddy = NOT SO GOOD.

Oh well, I should be grateful that at least it's not waterproof mascara

My mom says before she gots me, they almost never had dirt and muds in the house. Cuz Brudder Ranger is so light that he just kinda walks on top of the dirt and me, well, I'm very sturdy and sink down into it. Now we have towels all over the carpet in near our back door to keeps me from decorating it with my pawprints. Seems kindof extreme if you asks me.

And that is the cutest Muddy Buddy I ever saw!

Mud? Mud? MUD! Riley LOVES mud! Mommy puts down rugs and old sheets n' stuffs to protect the carpets, but when I'm in zoomie mode, they just end up as little lumps in the middle of the floor, surrounded by lots of footsie prints! Hahahahaha! I'm so funny!

Darwin hates the rain, but LOVES to run through puddles and mud. Last winter we were giving her baths almost weekly cause she was always covered in dirt and mud.

Chicago doesn't really have any grass in our neighborhood, so the pooches always have really muddy paws. I know this sounds really OCD, but I was so sick of cleaning up the mud in the house, we have the pooches wait and we wipe their feet before they come in from their walks. You'd be amazed how much Chicago-grime comes off, even if they were just walking on the sidewalk.

I got so tired of washing forty feet every time they came inside that we carpeted the lawn with straw. It worked. I have to pick up some little pieces of straw, but at least it's not mud.

BOL what a cute post about muddy buddy and plain muddy. All of us in my home are proud of what you do and we love your blog and wish it lots of success. It was so wonderful to hear about Kai or the kittens and your extortion plan BOL... We support all for rescue dogs!!! and we're grateful for all the angels responsible for their temporary and forever homes.
And thank you for the comment that my nails will eventually grown again and I'll be taller. I found it encouraging.

You seems to haves a problem with MUD Doggie Foster Mommy. I thinks da problem is that you hasn't tried it.
note from mum: thank you for your comment about the Pittie. It's 5:00 here and she hasn't been found yet. I know they don't deserve to get her back but I fear the worst for her. And I can't get the thought out of my head that that poor dog slept on the street last night. I honestly don't think there is much hope of her returning.

my mama and daddy keep a towel by the door, and me 'n asa can't come inside until we get our paws wiped off. but every now and then, me 'n asa get all sneaky like and make a break for it! that's why mama is a big fan of woolite pet stain & odor remover + oxygen!! i have to say, it really really works good on all the stainage that we've caused. heehee.

This is all an excellent argument for living with a Shar Pei. We don't like rain, and will never be in it long enough to track in mud if we can help it. On the other hand, we like having accidents even less. We'll hold out for hours and hours, but will go out and do the necessaries before we'll do it in the house. Um...I'm not saying we're pawfect, but the facts speak for themselves.
